The Uncrossing is a fun and romantic story with dramatic twists and turns and deep-rooted plots of family feuds and unique and twisted magic. A story that at first looks like a fun queer romance that takes you by surprise with a bewildering, twisting plot and surprises down every turn.
The Uncrossing surprised me. A great combination of humorous banter, a shippable romance, and a twisting, deliciously original plot that left me grasping at threads to predict what would happen next. Luke and Jeremy's dual point-of-view made this book never a dull moment. Luke, a loveable character just wanting to protect a boy he barely knows but might love. Jeremy, a softie with a good heart, just trying to get his crush to like him back and pretend everything is okay.
The boys are a loveable set of characters that will keep you on your toes, excited when they finally get something right for once and worried when they mess up for what will happen to them, and the side characters don't disappoint either. A cast of unique and intense characters with their own secrets and compelling personalities keep the book flying through its dramatic plotline and the reader begging for more.
Another thing I loved about this book was the theme of complicated and unclear villains. Villians are one of my favorite things to ponder about. The story explored the complications of human beings and how easy it can be to paint someone with the bad guy brush because it makes things easier on you when in reality, everyone is at fault in some way. When just everyone is messing up and then disagreeing on how. It's such an important theme to explore and this book executed it extremely well.
My only complaint with this book was at times it could be a bit confusing to follow. This though could be in part due to the fact I wasn't feeling 100% when I read it or that it's an arc and those small confusing line breaks and dialogue could be fixed in the final version. Regardless of that fact I still found it incredibly enjoyable and the majority of it, easy to follow.
Highly recommend for fans of The Mortal Instruments, Hex Hall, and Charmed!
